GAF Ridge Vent Installation: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
GAF ridge vent installation in Riverside typically runs $14 to $22 per linear foot installed, with most homes needing 40 to 60 feet, putting the full job between $560 and $1,320. We stock GAF Cobra Ridge Runner and Snow Country on our trucks, and most replacements are done in a single visit. The usual way homeowners find out their ridge vent has failed is a spike in attic heat during a Riverside summer, or water staining along the ceiling near an exterior wall after a winter storm.
Ridge vents are the exhaust side of your attic ventilation system. When they fail, the attic stops breathing, and everything up there gets punished: shingles cook from underneath, insulation mats down, and moisture hangs around long enough to feed mold. A GAF ridge vent that’s cracked, crushed, or clogged isn’t a cosmetic problem. It’s a slow leak in the form of trapped heat and humidity.
Which GAF Models This Applies To
We install and replace the two GAF ridge vent lines most common on Riverside homes: the GAF Cobra Ridge Runner and GAF Cobra Snow Country. The Ridge Runner is GAF’s standard-profile vent, roughly 11.5 inches wide, with an external baffle design that keeps wind-driven rain out while letting hot air escape. Snow Country is the heavier-profile option, built for regions where snow can block a lower-profile vent, though we see it spec’d here on homes with tile roofs where the extra height clears the tile profile better.
If you’re trying to match an existing GAF ridge vent, pull a section off and look for the GAF stamp on the underside of the plastic or along the edge. Older GAF ridge vents from the early 2000s were wider, around 12 inches, and sometimes use a different nail pattern than current-production Ridge Runner. That matters because a mismatched replacement leaves the nail line exposed or the vent sitting proud of the shingle cap, and both are leaks waiting to happen.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: GAF makes a good ridge vent, and we prefer to match GAF with GAF when the roof itself is a GAF system. If your roof is older and the original vent is no longer produced, we’ll install a code-compliant equivalent from Owens Corning or CertainTeed and match the profile as closely as the roof allows. We’re an independent roofing contractor, not a GAF dealer or affiliate, so the recommendation is always about what performs on a Riverside roof, not what keeps a manufacturer relationship happy.

Signs Your GAF Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Attic temperature spikes in summer. When the GAF vent’s baffles crack or the vent gets crushed by a foot-traffic accident, airflow drops. You’ll notice the upstairs rooms get harder to cool even though the AC is running the same as always.
- Water staining at the ceiling near exterior walls. A cracked ridge vent lets wind-driven rain blow straight into the attic during our winter storms. The water runs down the rafters and pools at the eaves, so the stain shows up at the wall line, not the center of the room.
- Granules from the shingles collecting in the gutters. Shingles that bake from underneath because the attic can’t exhaust heat will shed granules faster than they should. You’ll see more grit in the downspout screens than in previous years.
- Visible cracks, warping, or a collapsed vent profile. Riverside’s heat cycles are hard on plastic. After enough summers at 100-plus degrees, GAF vent baffles can become brittle and crack, especially where the vent meets the shingle cap.
- Musty smell or condensation in the attic. When the exhaust side fails, moisture from the house has nowhere to go. You’ll smell it before you see it. Condensation on the underside of the plywood decking in winter is the tell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what GAF ridge vent replacement costs in Riverside, installed:
- Standard GAF Cobra Ridge Runner replacement: $14 to $18 per linear foot, including removal of the old vent, new vent, and new shingle cap to match
- GAF Snow Country or tile-profile vent replacement: $18 to $22 per linear foot, including the taller-profile vent and cap work
- Full ridge re-cut if the original slot was cut too narrow or uneven: $2 to $4 per linear foot additional
- Ridge decking repair if the plywood is rotted at the cut line: $60 to $95 per 4×4 section replaced
The price is on paper before any work starts. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it’s the same on a 20-foot ridge as it is on a full re-roof. The estimate includes removing the failed vent, inspecting the ridge cut for width and straightness, installing the new GAF vent with the correct nail pattern, and capping it with shingles that match your roof. Every replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, in writing, we come back and fix it at no charge.
What drives the price range in Riverside specifically is roof pitch and access. A steep two-story ridge in the Alessandro Heights hills costs more to work safely than a single-story rancher in the flatlands. Steeper means more time on the pump jacks, more fall protection rigging, and slower shingle cap work.
DIY or Call Us?
Ridge vent replacement means working at the highest point of the roof, and on most Riverside homes that’s a 6/12 pitch or steeper. The risk here isn’t the plastic vent, it’s the same fall risk as any ridge work. Travis Oakley and his crew have been on Riverside ridges long enough to know that the ridge is where the roof punishes overconfidence. We don’t recommend homeowners do this themselves.
What you can safely check from the ground or a ladder: look for visible cracking along the vent line, missing cap shingles that expose the vent, and any sections that look crushed or flattened. That’s enough to know you need a pro, and it’s exactly the information we’ll ask for when you call. If you’re already seeing water stains, don’t wait to see if it dries out. Call us at (341) 208-3988 and we’ll get someone out to look.
FAQs
A GAF ridge vent in Riverside’s climate typically lasts 20 to 30 years, but the cap shingles over it may need replacement at 15 to 20 years, and heat brittleness can shorten the vent’s life on south-facing ridges. We see plenty of failed vents on 15-year-old Riverside roofs where the shingles still have life left. Call (341) 208-3988 and we’ll tell you honestly whether the vent is the problem or the roof around it is.
Small cracks in a GAF ridge vent can sometimes be patched with a compatible vent section, but if the baffles are warped or crushed across more than a few feet, full replacement is the honest fix. Patching a failing vent usually buys a year or two at most. Call (341) 208-3988 for an assessment and a written price either way.
A typical single-story Riverside home with a straight ridge takes one day, including removal, vent installation, and shingle capping. Two-story or complex ridge lines may take a second day. We’ll give you a written schedule before work begins.
Yes. Our trucks carry GAF Cobra Ridge Runner and Snow Country in standard lengths, so most replacements don’t wait on a supplier order. If your vent is an older GAF profile that’s no longer in production, we’ll source the closest compatible match from Owens Corning or CertainTeed and show you the spec difference before we install it.
A roof should outlast the paperwork, not the other way around. If your GAF ridge vent is showing signs of failure, call Brennan Roofing Co Riverside at (341) 208-3988. A live person answers, and your estimate goes in writing before any work starts.
