CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent systems in Riverside for $6.50 to $9.00 per linear foot, fully installed. Most homes in Riverside need between 40 and 60 linear feet of ridge vent, which puts the typical job between $260 and $540. If your current ridge vent is cracked, blown off during Santa Ana winds, or letting water in around the nails, we can usually get a crew out within a few days. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drip in the hallway ceiling after a hard rain, or shingles scattered in the yard after a wind event and a ridge line that suddenly looks naked. Ridge vents fail quietly until they don’t, and by the time you see the damage, the decking underneath has already been getting wet.
We’re an independent roofing contractor in Riverside. We’re not affiliated with CertainTeed, but we install their ridge vent products regularly, and we keep common profiles on our trucks.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed makes three ridge vent lines you’re likely to have on a Riverside home: the ShingleVent II, the RidgeVent, and the newer Air Vent RidgeRunner series. There’s a compatibility gotcha here most homeowners don’t know: the ShingleVent II has a specific nail line and hinge profile that doesn’t cross-match with the RidgeVent, even though both look like black corrugated strips from the ground. If a contractor slaps a generic aftermarket vent where a ShingleVent II was, you’ll get a ridge that doesn’t sit flush, and water pushes under the shingle caps over time. Travis Oakley and our crew check the existing vent’s profile before we quote, because we’ve seen too many Riverside roofs where someone swapped in a near-miss part and called it done.
The OEM decision matters more with CertainTeed than with some other brands. CertainTeed’s ridge vent plastic is a UV-stabilized polypropylene that holds up better in Riverside’s extended sun exposure than the cheaper aftermarket polyethylene vents, which get brittle and snap at the nail line after five or six summers. We stock the CertainTeed OEM profiles because the manufacturer’s vent dimensions match the manufacturer’s shingle mat thickness. That fit matters when the Santa Anas are pushing 50 mph gusts and testing every fastener line on your ridge. You can identify which CertainTeed vent you have by the embossed name on the vent itself, or by measuring the exposed vent width: ShingleVent II runs 11.5 inches wide, the RidgeVent is 12 inches, and the RidgeRunner is 11.25. Bring us a photo and we’ll tell you what you have before we ever roll a truck.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Water stains on the ceiling near interior walls, not exterior walls. Ridge leaks show up in the middle of the house first, because the ridge is the highest point and water runs down the rafters from there. If your stain is centered in the room, check the ridge before you start looking at windows.
- Shingle caps missing along the peak after a wind event. CertainTeed ridge vents rely on the shingle caps to protect the vent slots from driving rain. Lose the caps, and the vent below is exposed to direct water entry the next time it rains.
- Visible cracking or crumbling plastic at the vent edges. Riverside’s UV index chews through inferior plastics fast. When the vent material gets brittle at the nail line, it pulls free from the nails and starts flapping in wind, which widens every nail hole.
- Black plastic fragments in your gutters or downspouts. If your ridge vent is degrading, pieces end up in the gutter. It’s one of the few roofing failures you can diagnose from ground level with a pair of binoculars.
- Attic temperature climbing in summer despite a working AC system. A failed ridge vent stops pulling heat out of the attic, and your attic becomes an oven. If your upstairs rooms suddenly can’t hold temperature in July, the ridge vent has gone passive when it should be exhausting.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Riverside, a complete CertainTeed ridge vent replacement runs $6.50 to $9.00 per linear foot installed, which includes the vent material, new shingle caps, nails, and full cleanup. A standard single-story ranch home with 48 linear feet of ridge typically lands between $310 and $430. Two-story homes or roofs with multiple ridge lines run higher because of the access and staging time, but rarely push past $650 for the vent work alone.
- Vent material: $2.50 to $3.50 per linear foot (CertainTeed OEM)
- Shingle caps and fasteners: $1.50 to $2.50 per linear foot
- Labor and cleanup: $2.50 to $3.00 per linear foot
The number that goes on your written estimate before any work starts won’t move at the door. That’s the Garrison Standard we operate under at Brennan Roofing Co Riverside. If we find the decking under your old vent is rotted, we’ll show you a photo, give you a line-item price for the repair, and get your sign-off before we cut anything. No surprises, no change orders you didn’t approve. The vent installation itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and fix it free, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
Some ridge vent work is genuinely safe to inspect yourself. Grab a ladder, look at the vent from the eaves, and check for obvious cracks, missing caps, or nail pops. That’s a reasonable Saturday morning task. Replacing a ridge vent is a different animal. You’re working at the highest point of the roof, often on a 6/12 pitch or steeper, and one bad step sends you down the shingle face. Ridge vent replacement also means cutting back old material, potentially exposing the deck seam to weather, and nailing new vent sections in a pattern that has to hold through the next Santa Ana. If the nail line is wrong or the vent isn’t lapped correctly, you’ve created a leak that will show up in the guest bedroom ceiling in November. A roof should outlast the paperwork, not the other way around. We’d rather you call us at (341) 208-3988 and get a straight price than patch it twice and pay us to undo the patch.
FAQs
A properly installed CertainTeed ridge vent lasts 15 to 20 years in Riverside’s climate, though the shingle caps over it often need replacement at the 12 to 15 year mark. If the vent was installed with cheap aftermarket material or nailed incorrectly, expect failure in 5 to 8 years. Call (341) 208-3988 and we’ll give you an honest read on what you’ve got.
If the damage is limited to a single 4-foot section and the rest of the vent is still flexible and intact, we can splice in a matched replacement section. But if the plastic is brittle along the entire ridge line, patching is throwing money at a part that’ll fail again next season. We’ll tell you which situation you have, and we’ll quote both options if the repair is honestly viable.
Most single-story Riverside homes are done in 4 to 6 hours, including teardown, deck inspection, installation, and full magnet sweep for dropped nails. Two-story homes or complex ridge lines add 2 to 3 hours. Your estimate includes a written completion window, and our uniformed crew shows up inside it.
We keep CertainTeed ShingleVent II and RidgeVent profiles in common colors on our trucks, along with matching shingle caps. We also stock parts from GAF and Owens Corning for mixed-brand roofs, which is common in older Riverside neighborhoods where roofs have been repaired piecemeal over decades. If your vent is an uncommon profile, we’ll have it from our supplier within one to two business days.
